The NCAA will permit spring sport athletes who had their seasons shortened by the coronavirus outbreak to have an additional year of eligibility.

The NCAA Division I Council voted Monday to give college athletes who compete in spring sports a way to get back the season they lost.

Winter sports were not included in the decision as the council members declined to extend eligibility for student-athletes in sports where all or much of their regular seasons were completed, such as men’s and women’s basketball.

The NCAA also extended the student-athletes’ period of eligibility and adjusted scholarship rules to allow teams to have more players on rosters, with incoming freshman classes and seniors who decide to stay.

NCAA Division I sports at Liberty affected by this include baseball, golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, women’s lacrosse, and softball.
