Liberty redshirt-senior running back Joshua Mack alluded to him returning for one more season in 2021 with the Flames as he tweeted, “I’m knowing he’s coming back.” This was in response to a user replying to one of Mack’s tweets saying, “I hope you coming back!!!!”

Under normal circumstances, Mack’s eligibility would have been exhausted following the conclusion of the 2020 season; however, the NCAA is not counting the 2020 season against student-athlete’s eligibility due to the COVID pandemic.

The 5’11”, 200 pound Mack transferred to Liberty prior to the 2018 season from Maine where he rushed for 2,047 yards and 15 touchdowns on 383 carries in two seasons. In 2017, Mack led all of FCS with 133.5 rushing yards per game and was a 2017 Walter Payton Award finalist. After sitting out the 2018 campaign due to NCAA transfer requirements, Mack finished second on the team in rushing in both 2019 and 2020 as he’s rushed for 1,571 yards and 11 touchdowns the past two seasons. He also has 19 receptions for 195 yards at Liberty.

With Mack back in the fold, he will lead a Liberty running back group that includes Shedro Louis and Troy Henderson. Louis had 453 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 61 carries in 2020 while Henderson had 32 rushing attempts for 152 yards. The Flames also added Utah transfer running back TJ Green who will factor into the rotation.

We continue to monitor Liberty’s senior class who are all eligible to return. You can keep up with that information here.
