Liberty will open the 2026-27 men’s basketball season in the Field of 68 24-hour marathon on Monday, November 2 at midnight ET against High Point in Rock Hill, South Carolina in what will be the first game of the college basketball season. The Field of 68 announced the news jointly with Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay and High Point head coach Flynn Clayman.
This will be the third year the Field of 68 has held a tip-off event as it has grown from three games two years ago to six games last year and it is now planned to be a full 24-hour event this season. Liberty and High Point will meet at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center, the second year in a row the Field of 68 has hosted games at the facility, with High Point defeating Furman, 97-71, on Nov. 3, 2025 in the event this past season.
Liberty just completed a three year arrangement with the Field of 68 alongside Charleston and FAU. The Flames won that event this past season by defeating by Charleston and FAU at Liberty Arena. The Flames would go on to a 26-8 campaign this past season, including a 17-3 mark in Conference USA as Liberty won its second straight CUSA regular season title and reached the second round of the NIT.
Under first year head coach Flynn Clayman, High Point was one of the top mid major programs in the country this past season. They went 31-5 overall and 15-1 in the Big South, winning the conference for a second straight year. They went on to upset Wisconsin, 83-82, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Arkansas, 94-88.
Liberty is 24-17 all-time against the Panthers but the teams haven’t met since the 2017-18 season, the Flames’ final season in the Big South where the two teams were once conference rivals.
This is the second game we know about Liberty’s upcoming non-conference schedule as the Flames are also scheduled to conclude a home-and-home series with Dayton by hosting the Flyers in Lynchburg this coming season.
