Now 4-1 since the calendar flipped to February, Liberty moves to 13-11 overall and 7-6 in CUSA action after a weekend sweep at home over UTEP and New Mexico State. Liberty’s leading scorer Avery Mills missed both games as she has now missed three straight with an ankle injury. Head coach Alexis Sherard stated this past week Mills was day to day.

Here’s a recap of the team’s recent action:

W, 58-48 vs UTEP, Feb. 12

Liberty raced out to a 12-0 lead to start Thursday evening’s contest against UTEP and the Miners were never able to recover as Liberty completes the regular season sweep. Emmy Stout’s double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds helped the Lady Flames improve to 6-0 all-time against the Miners with all six victories coming by double digits. In addition to Stout, Emma Leon added 11 points on 4 of 4 shooting while Elisabeth Aegisdottir had 9 points and 6 rebounds and Ify Nwaobi added 9 points on 3 of 3 shooting from three.

Stout recorded her fourth double-double of the season and fifth of her career while Leon scored in double figures for the third time this season but first in a CUSA game. Nwaobi hit as many triples on Thursday as she hit in her first 19 career appearances combined. After starting her career 1 of 18 from beyond the arc, Nwaobi is now 5 of 6 over the prior three outings.

Aegisdottir bookended Liberty’s 12-0 game-opening burst with a layup just four seconds in and a three-pointer at the 7:10 mark. The home team’s advantage reached 24-8 by the end of the first period and UTEP got no closer than in points for the remainder of the game.

W, 67-42 vs New Mexico State, Feb. 14

Similar to Thursday, the Lady Flames jumped on top of the vi sitting Aggies on Saturday afternoon with a 18-5 first quarter advantage. The game ended in Liberty’s largest margin of victory over a Division I for this season to improve to 7-0 all-time against the Aggies. Claudia Acin came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points, helping Liberty’s bench players tally 36 for the contest. It was the sixth time this season she has reached double figures.

Ify Nwaobi added 14 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on both of her triples. Nwaobi’s double-double was the fourth of the season and third this month. She has made six consecutive three point attempts over the prior three games. Lydie Mwamba had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

New Mexico State scored the afternoon’s first four points within 90 seconds. However, the Aggies were then held without another field goal for more than 11 minutes. Liberty closed the opening period with an 18-1 run, sparked by 10 points from Acin. The lead got to as large as 33 at 65-32 with 3:12 remaining.
