Liberty softball swept their four games in Louisville, Kentucky this past week, knocking off the Louisville Cardinals in a single game before sweeping the Bellarmine Knights. The Lady Flames have now won 11 straight games to improve to 25-12 overall and 9-0 in ASUN play.

WEDNESDAY: LIBERTY 9, LOUISVILLE 7

Liberty got a two-run homer from Devyn Howard in the top of the eighth, earning an extra inning victory over Louisville. In a game of major momentum swings, the contest saw ties at 1, 3, 5, and 7. The Lady Flames led by two in the bottom of the sixth before Louisville got a two-out, two run home run.

FRIDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 7, BELLARMINE 0

Liberty broke the game open in the middle innings, scoring once in the fourth and adding a two-run homer from Devyn Howard in the fifth to make it 3-0. The Lady Flames then scored four sixth inning runs on five hits.

FRIDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 14, BELLARMINE 3

After scoring once in the first, Liberty removed all doubt with a nine-run second inning that featured three-run homers by KC Machado and Kara Canetto, as well as a two-run blast from Lou Allan. The Lady Flames added four more runs in the third for a 14-0 lead.

SATURDAY: LIBERTY 2, BELLARMINE 0

Emily Kirby pitched her first career no-hitter, striking out 12 batters during a 2-0 Liberty win to wrap up the series sweep. Kirby walked the first batter of the game but retired 21 out of the final 22 hitters in the game, including 17 straight. Liberty would load the bases in the first, scoring one run when Rachel Roupe was hit by a pitch. The Lady Flames then doubled their lead on Machado’s leadoff homer in the second.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DEVYN HOWARD

Howard continues to come through in the clutch, as her home run against Louisville in the top of the 8th inning helped push the Lady Flames past the Cardinals. For the week, Howard was 5 of 14 at the plate while scoring 7 runs and driving in four.

Kirby pitched her first career no hitter on Saturday as Liberty completed the three-game series over Bellarmine. She struck out 12 and walked just one. On the week, Kirby made three appearances, pitching 8.2 innings while striking out 16 and allowing just three runs, all unearned.
