Liberty softball saw their seven-game winning streak, which began on March 31 against Kennesaw State, come to a close with a loss Tuesday at Virginia. The Lady Flames are now 25-14 overall and 10-2 in ASUN play.

FRIDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 6, NORTH FLORIDA 1

Liberty used a four-run sixth inning to pull away for a 6-1 win over North Florida in game one of a doubleheader, Friday at UNF Softball Complex.

UNF broke up Keeney’s no-hit and shutout bids in the fourth, scoring one run on three hits to narrow the gap to 2-1. However, the Ospreys managed just one hit the rest of the way while the Lady Flames pulled away with a four-run sixth inning.

FRIDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 12, NORTH FLORIDA 9

Liberty erased deficits of 7-1 and 9-6, rallying to defeat North Florida 12-9 and sweep a doubleheader on Friday.

After Liberty narrowed the deficit to 7-6, Shannon Glover greeted new relief pitcher Karlie Keeney with a two-run homer to push UNF’s lead to 9-6 in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Ospreys managed just one base runner the rest of the way.

Meanwhile, Liberty tied the game on a bases-clearing double from Hudson in the fifth and went ahead on homers by Craine (leadoff) and Wilson (two-run) in the sixth.

SATURDAY: LIBERTY 6, NORTH FLORIDA 0

Liberty completed a three-game series sweep, as sophomore Paige Bachman tossed a four-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over North Florida on Saturday.

UNF had a runner at third with less than two outs in both the first and fourth innings, but Bachman worked through trouble in both frames to keep the game scoreless. Wilson broke the tie with a solo homer in the fifth, sparking a three-run inning as the Lady Flames did all of their scoring from the fifth inning on.

TUESDAY: VIRGINIA 3, LIBERTY 0

Virginia struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth, backing a three-hit shutout by freshman Eden Bigham in a 3-0 Cavaliers win over Liberty, Tuesday in Charlottesville. With the win, UVA earns a season series split against Liberty.

Liberty put their first two batters on base to start the sixth, courtesy of a single by Howard and a walk to Hudson. With one out, Howard stole third. However, the scoring chance went by the boards, as Rachel Craine flied out and Megan Fortner flied to center, keeping the game scoreless.

Virginia broke the scoreless tie on Hylton’s one-out solo homer in the bottom of the sixth. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Gilbert made it 3-0 when she hit a two-run home run.
