Liberty softball has run its win streak to nine straight following a second straight perfect week at home. The Lady Flames punctuated a 5-0 week with a win over Virginia on Tuesday evening. Liberty has improved its record to 10-9 on the season and its current home stand concludes this weekend with four games in the Flames Classic.

SATURDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 11, IONA 0 (5 INNINGS)

Liberty hit a season-high four homers and held Iona to just one hit in an 11-0, five-inning win over the Gaels. The Lady Flames scored four runs in the first, on two-run homers by Hudson and Wilson. Leading 6-0 in the third, Roupe’s grand slam broke the game open, making it 10-0. Wilson’s solo homer in the fourth set the final score at 11-0.

SATURDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 3, UCONN 0

Liberty right-hander Karlie Keeney tossed a two-hit shutout as the Lady Flames blanked UConn 3-0. Liberty loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning. After a popout, Soto lined a shot to left field that was caught by Kaitlyn Kibling. Howard hustled home to score the first run of the game. The Lady Flames added two runs on the fourth on Madrey’s two-run single, providing more than enough run support for Keeney who cruised to the shutout.

SUNDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 14, RADFORD 6 (5 INNINGS)

Liberty overcame a 6-0 deficit, scoring 14 unanswered runs to defeat Radford 14-6 in five innings. Radford led 6-0 after a four-run third inning. However, Hudson’s three-run homer sparked the Lady Flames’ seven-run rally in the home half. The Lady Flames maintained command, adding three runs in the fourth to take a 10-6 lead. With two runners on in the fifth, Radford intentionally walked Hudson, but Roupe hit a walk-off grand slam to clear the bases and end the game.

SUNDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 12, RADFORD 2 (5 INNINGS)

Liberty pulled away late for a 12-2, five-inning victory, capped by a walk-off homer by Caroline Hudson. Liberty jumped out early, scoring twice before recording an out as Howard led off with a single and Hudson followed with a two-run homer. After three unearned runs gave the Lady Flames a 5-0 lead, Radford pushed across two in the third. However, Liberty ended the game with a six-run fifth inning, with Hudson’s three-run blast providing the knockout punch.

TUESDAY: LIBERTY 6, VIRGINIA 2

Virginia had won 11 straight games as they entered Lynchburg Tuesday evening with a 17-5 record. The Cavaliers tied the game at 2 on a two-run home run in the second. However, Liberty went ahead on an RBI double by Caroline Hudson in the third, tacked on one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, while Karlie Keeney and the Liberty defense hung zeros on the scoreboard. The Lady Flames handed Virginia its first loss since Feb. 19.
