One week after the ASUN announced the conference schedule, featuring 24 conference games and North and South Divisions, Liberty has released its full 2021 baseball schedule.

The Flames will open the season Feb. 19-21 at Campbell. The team’s home opener will be on Feb. 24 against North Carolina A&T. Other notable matchups include a series at TCU and UCF. ACC opponents North Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Duke will visit Lynchburg. Liberty will also host former Big South rival Coastal Carolina for a series in late April.

Liberty has been placed in the North Division of the ASUN this season alongside Bellarmine, Lipscomb, North Alabama, and Kennesaw State. The South Division includes Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, Jacksonville, and North Florida. Each team will play the members of its own division in a pair of home and home series’. In addition, eight teams will battle two members of the opposing division in a crossover game during the final weekend of the season.

Liberty will look to defend its 2019 ASUN Championship after the 2020 baseball season came to a premature close amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Flames were 10-7 last season before the season came to an abrupt end in mid March prior to the start of conference play.

As a result of the cancellation of the 2020 season, the NCAA did not count that year of eligibility against spring sport athletes. Seniors Cam Locklear and Trey McDyre have elected to return. Additionally, Liberty welcomes in numerous transfers to its team including UNC Charlotte infielder Josh Haney, Florida State infielder and pitcher Cade Hungate, Chicago State pitcher Dylan Cumming, Maine pitcher Trevor DeLaite, Bowling Green outfielder Jake Wilson, and Flagler infielder Aaron Anderson.

Under 5th year head coach Scott Jackson, the Flames are coming off one of the best seasons in school history. In 2019, Liberty tied a program record with 43 wins. In the first year as an ASUN member, the Flames won the ASUN Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament as a 3-seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. After defeating 2-seed Tennessee, 6-1, in the opening game, the Flames dropped two straight to North Carolina and Tennessee.
