The Liberty men’s basketball team is off to the program’s best ever start following a 4-0 week as the Flames’ improve to 8-0 on the season. On Monday, the Associated Press Top 25 poll was updated, and Liberty continues to find itself in the “others receiving votes” category.

The Flames have been receiving votes in the AP Poll since the preseason poll was released. This week, Liberty received 6 votes and checks in at 36th.

McKay and the Flames defeated Navy last Tuesday before an impressive showing in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase over the weekend. Liberty won the tournament, winning its three games over Morgan State, Rice, and UMKC by an average margin of victory of 22 points.

Following the week’s strong performance, Scottie James was named the ASUN’s Player of the Week while Kyle Rode was named the league’s Newcomer of the Week. James averaged 10.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in only 22.8 minutes per game as Liberty improved to an NCAA-best 8-0 on the season. Rode led the Flames with 10.8 points per game this week to go along with 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per outing while also being named the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase Tournament MVP.

The Flames return to action Friday afternoon at 2 in the Vines Center against Kentucky Christian.
