Despite coming off an upset loss at UConn Saturday, Liberty has opened as an 8-point favorite against the Virginia Tech Hokies this week. The Flames are scheduled to play host to the in-state Power Five opponent at Williams Stadium on Saturday at noon on ESPN+.

The loss to the Huskies, dropped Liberty to 8-2 on the season and knocked the Flames out of the top 25 polls. Liberty is listed as 8th among others receiving votes with 9 points in the Coaches Poll and 6th among others receiving votes with 15 points in the AP Poll this week after being ranked No. 19 last week.

In Blacksburg, it has been a difficult and disappointing season under first year head coach Brent Pry for Virginia Tech. The Hokies are 2-8 on the season and have lost seventh straight including a loss at Duke, 24-7, Saturday.

Liberty is 1-1 all-time against Virginia Tech, but 1-0 as an FBS member. The Flames knocked off the Hokies on Nov. 7, 2020, 38-35, in Blacksburg thanks to a last second Alex Barbir field goal. Virginia Tech defeated Liberty, 36-13, on Sept. 3, 2016 when the Flames were an FCS member. This will be the first time Virginia Tech plays at Liberty’s William Stadium.
