Update: Former Liberty guard Avery Mills announced her commitment to Tennessee on Wednesday morning on Instangram. She took a visit to Tennessee on Tuesday, the only reported visit the talented guard made since the portal officially opened earlier this week.

Mills shot 42.7% from three and 85.1% from the free throw line last season for the Lady Flames and entered the transfer portal after two seasons with the program. Tennessee played host to Liberty and Mills in 2024, a game where she scored 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting and 3 of 5 from three.

Liberty guard Avery Mills will enter the transfer portal, according to her Instagram. Mills earned All-CUSA first team accolades this season as a sophomore and was named to the 2024-25 CUSA All-Freshman Team.

Mills averaged 15.3 points per game this season while shooting 42.7% from three, a program record. She led CUSA in three-pointers per game and was among the nation’s leaders in that category. She set a program mark with 82 made triples on the season while helping Liberty to an 18-13 record this past season under first year head coach Alexis Sherard.

As a true freshman a year ago, Mills was the Lady Flames’ only freshman to appear in all 33 games. She shot 51.9% from the field, 46.2% from three, and 91.3% from the free throw line. She scored in double figures nine times with a high of 19 points against Tennessee and Randolph. Mills scored in double figures five times in the final eight games of the season.

Mills graduated from Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia where she helped her team claim its first ever VHSL Class 3 State title as a senior after the Bulldogs win their first regional championship her junior year. She totaled 2,759 high school points during her career with more than 1,000 rebounds and over 500 assists. She was a first team all-state performer all three seasons she played at LCA, averaging over 22 points per game each year.
