Liberty’s fall sports are officially underway all over campus, and we will provide weekly updates on all of the teams throughout the semester.

CROSS COUNTRY

Liberty swept the men’s and women’s team titles with perfect scores while Edwin Kiprop notched his first career cross country victory in the men’s 6K at the 2025 Liberty Challenge this past Friday. Allie Zealand and Jessica Palisca finished in third and fourth place in the women’s 4K, pacing nine Lady Flames in the top 11.

Liberty will not return to the course for three weeks. The Flames and Lady Flames will compete in the adidas XC Challenge, Sept. 19 in Cary, North Carolina.

FIELD HOCKEY (1-0, 0-0 Big East)

The Lady Flames opened the season with a come from behind, 4-3, win at No. 5 Duke in Durham on Monday. Liberty erased a 3-0 deficit. Senior captain Lou Combrinck scored the game winner on a penalty corner in the 56th minute to complete the comeback.

Liberty returns to the field on Wednesday at 2 p.m. hosting James Madison. On Sunday, the Lady Flames host Richmond at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (3-1-2, 0-0 CUSA)

Liberty played No. 24 Virginia Tech to a 1-1 tie on Thursday at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg. With just under five minutes remaining, Haley Noblit sent a perfect ball in from outside the goal box, sending it just over a diving goalkeeper’s reach on the far post to earn the draw. On Sunday, Ivy Garner’s score in the final five minutes lifted Liberty to a 1-0 triumph at Old Dominion. She drew a foul to earn a free kick on the end line, earning a shot corner attempt on the far side of the field. Bri Myers took the free kick, sending a ball on the ground to the center of the 18-yard box. Garner sprung free, cut in front of the defense and deflected a shot into the near side of the net for the lead, her third goal of the year.

The Lady Flames are back in action Thursday at 5 p.m., playing host to Queens. On Sunday, Liberty welcomes Penn State to Osborne Stadium.

MEN’S SOCCER (2-0-1, 0-0 OVC)

Liberty and Radford played to a 1-1 draw last Thursday. The two teams exchanged goals in the middle of the second half, with the Highlanders scoring in the 70th minute and the Flames finding the equalizer during the 73rd minute.

This week, Liberty plays at VMI on Thursday at 4 p.m. before hosting Longwood on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (3-0, 0-0 CUSA)

Under the direction of first-year head coach Jeremy White, the Liberty volleyball team opened the season with consecutive 3-0 sweeps of Marist in Buffalo at the Buffalo Invitational. On Saturday, after trailing Rutgers 2-0, Liberty rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Scarlet Knights to win the Buffalo Invite. It marked Liberty’s first ever win over a Big Ten team in volleyball.

This week, Liberty heads to Morgantown, West Virginia to compete in the Mountaineer Invitational. The Lady Flames open against Coppin State on Thursday at 3 p.m. before playing the host West Virginia on Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Liberty is scheduled to play North Dakota at 10 a.m.
