The fall sports athletic calendar is underway with several Liberty teams in action. We will provide weekly updates on all of Liberty’s NCAA Division I teams competing this fall.

CROSS COUNTRY

Liberty All-American Calli Doan cruised to victory in the women’s 4K in the season-opening Liberty Challenge. Will Jefferson finished second in the men’s 6K while making his Liberty cross country debut. No team scores were tallied during the opener, the Flames’ first home meet in three years. Next up on the schedule is the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational, scheduled for Sept. 16.

FIELD HOCKEY (3-2)

In a rematch of last year’s national championship game, Liberty fell to No. 1 Northwestern, 3-0, this past Friday. After consecutive shutouts, the offense break open in an 11-0 win at home over Queens on Sunday. Conference play begins on Friday at home against Georgetown at 3 p.m. and streamed on ESPN+. The Lady Flames then head to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., also on ESPN+.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (4-3-1)

After a strong start to the season at 4-1-1, the Lady Flames have dropped consecutive contests in Pennsylvania. First, Liberty fell at No. 11 Penn State, 2-1, last Thursday before dropping a close match, 3-2, on Sunday at Pitt. This week, conference play begins as the Lady Flames host Stetson on Thursday at 6 p.m. and FGCU on Sunday at 1 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER (2-1-2, 1-0)

Liberty opened conference play with a 2-0 win at home over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon in a rain-soaked contest. On Tuesday, the men played to a scoreless, 0-0, draw with Davidson in a non-conference match. The Flames will take on Lipscomb at home on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (5-4)

The Lady Flames were in California this past weekend for three matches, all three going to five sets. Liberty defeated the host UC San Diego on Friday afternoon, before falling to Pacific on Friday night followed by a loss to New Mexico on Saturday. The women are back in Lynchburg this weekend for the final tune-ups ahead of conference play. Liberty will host Radford on Friday at 6 p.m., Coppin State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 3 p.m.

GOLF

Liberty posted its best score at the Rod Myers Invitational during the final round on Saturday, allowing the Flames to finish the event in a share of sixth place. Alabama claimed the team title by 11 strokes while tournament host Duke finished in second place. Liberty was paced by Austin Barbin and Jonathan Yaun who shared 17th place with a 1-over par 217. Liberty returns to the course Sept. 26-28 for the 2022 Folds of Honor Collegiate hosted by Michigan State at the American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan.
