The fall sports athletic calendar is underway with several Liberty teams in action. We will provide weekly updates on all of Liberty’s NCAA Division I teams competing this fall.

CROSS COUNTRY

Liberty All-American Calli Doan successfully defended her women’s 5K individual title at the 2022 ASUN Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Both the Flames and the Lady Flames finished second in the team standings during Liberty’s final year in the ASUN.

The Lady Flames conclude their time in the ASUN with two team titles and three runner-up finishes. The men have recorded nine consecutive conference runner-up finishes, including all five years in the ASUN.

Liberty will now turn its attention to the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, held Nov. 11, which will determine the team and individual qualifiers to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

FIELD HOCKEY (12-7, 6-1)

Liberty defeated UConn in the Big East semifinals last week before knocking off No. 1 seed Old Dominion, 3-1, to claim a second straight conference championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament. The fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, No. 19 Liberty will take on Big Ten regular season co-champion No. 2 Maryland on Friday at noon in the Sweet 16. This will be a rematch from last year’s Final Four when Liberty knocked off the Terrapins, 3-2 in double overtime.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (14-3-4, 8-0-2)

The No. 1 seed Lady Flames fell to No. 2 FGCU in penalty kicks, 4-3, in the ASUN Championship final last Friday. Liberty took a 1-0 advantage in the first half. The Eagles would tie the match during the 85th minute, eventually sending the game to penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods. The season comes to an end in disappointing fashion, but it was a tremendous campaign for the Lady Flames.

MEN’S SOCCER (3-6-6, 1-4-3)

Liberty lost to North Florida, 1-0, on Friday in Jacksonville and then played to a 2-2 tie at Queens on Tuesday. This brings to an end a disappointing season as the Flames are not one of the six teams that qualified for the ASUN Tournament.

VOLLEYBALL (19-7, 12-2)

Liberty defeated North Alabama in four sets on Friday and then swept Central Arkansas in straight sets Sunday afternoon. The Lady Flames are the top team in the ASUN entering the final week of the regular season. Liberty plays host to Eastern Kentucky on Friday night at 6 p.m. before the regular season finale on Sunday at Bellarmine.
