Liberty co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Willy Korn is stepping away from football, ASOR can confirm. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Korn has held that position since he joined the Flames’ staff prior to the 2023 season, when he followed Jamey Chadwell from Coastal Carolina to Liberty. Korn has coached under Chadwell since 2013, joining his staff at Charleston Southern in 2013. He followed Chadwell to Coastal Carolina as wide receivers coach and was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2019.

According to Thamel, Korn will work in private business, stating, “I love coaching and I love college football. But there’s always been that piece of needing to be more available and intentional at home.”

Korn was one of the top quarterback prospects in the class of 2007 coming out of high school where he played at Byrnes High School. He began his college career at Clemson, but injuries plagued his time there. He transferred to Marshall and then transferred to Division II North Greenville where he met up with Chadwell who was the head coach.

Korn helped guide the Flames to unprecedented heights in his first season on the Mountain, helping to lead the Flames to a 13-1 season, CUSA Championship and Fiesta Bowl berth. Behind Korn as the play caller, Liberty finished that season ranked No. 1 in the country in rushing, averaging 293.3 yards per game. Liberty finished the year rushing for a program-record 4,106 yards and 39 touchdowns. The Flames also ranked No. 4 nationally in total offense and No. 9 in points per game.
