Following the conclusion of the winter athletic season, Liberty is currently ranked No. 108 in the country in the Learfield College Directors’ Cup standings, a ranking of the top collegiate athletic departments in the country.
After receiving 70 points from two different teams that participated in the fall – Field Hockey and Women’s Soccer – the Flames received 34.5 points from women’s indoor track & field in the winter following the team’s CUSA Championship. In the fall, the Flames received points from field hockey and women’s soccer. Liberty won the Big East field hockey championship and advanced to the sweet 16 of the national tournament, receiving 45 points. The Flames gained 25 points in women’s soccer after winning the CUSA championship before losing to Clemson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Being ranked at No. 108, Liberty is the highest ranked Conference team. The Flames are ranked ahed of No. 129 Delaware, No. 140 Western Kentucky, No. 144 Kennesaw State, No. 169 Missouri State, and Jacksonville State and Louisiana Tech who are tied for No. 187, to round out the CUSA teams that have received points through the winter season.
North Carolina is the national leader following the winter sports. They are followed in the standings by Stanford, Virginia, Princeton, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Duke, Michigan, and Texas in the top 10.
Liberty Athletics continues to see its national brand lifted across all sports, as the Flames have posted four top 100 finishes in the past five years in the final College Directors’ Cup standings. How many sports will receive points in the spring?
