Liberty has announced a home-and-home football series with Louisiana for 2028 and 2032.
The Flames will welcome the Ragin’ Cajuns to Williams Stadium in Lynchburg on Saturday, September 23, 2028. To conclude the series, Liberty will travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to face the Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday, September 25, 2032.
Liberty and Louisiana previously had a home-and-home series when the Flames first moved to the FBS level. Louisiana won both of those contests, 35-14, in Lafayette in 2019 and a 42-14 win in Lynchburg in 2021, as the lead the series, 2-0. Those games were played when current Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and Florida head coach Billy Napier roamed the sidelines in Lafayette and Lynchburg, respectively.
Under third year head coach Michael Desormeaux, the Ragin’ Cajuns posted a 10-4 season in 2024. They advanced to the Sun Belt Championship Game with a 7-1 league record before losing to Marshall. The Ragin’ Cajuns advanced to the New Mexico Bowl where they lost to TCU. It was a seventh straight bowl appearance for Louisiana.
The announcement of this football series completes Liberty’s 2028 non-conference schedule. The Flames will open the season on September 2 at Virginia Tech before returning home for three straight games at Williams Stadium. The 2028 home opener is scheduled for September 9 against VMI. Liberty will then host Coastal Carolina before welcoming Louisiana to Lynchburg.
The 2032 season now features two non-conference games. This trip to Louisiana is added to a Sept. 11 home date from Williams Stadium against James Madison.
