Following a Junior Day visit on Saturday from over 30 of Liberty’s top prospects in the Class of 2026, the Flames have picked up their first commitment of the cycle, coming from QB John Johnson.
Johnson has offers from Nebraska, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, Arkansas State, and others. He is from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans.
Johnson has been recruited as an athlete, getting interest as both a quarterback and defensive back, both positions he plays in high school. The 6’0″, 180 pound prospect is rated as a three-star rated recruit.
Johnson threw for over 3,000 yards, 32 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while rushing for over 700 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season. For his efforts, he was named the District 9-5A Offensive MVP in a district filled with talented players.
His efforts didn’t stop there, as Johnson helped lead Edna Karr to the 5A State Championship, being named the Most Outstanding Player in the state title game, played in the Superdome. In that game, Johnson completed 10 passes for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns while also rushing 19 times for 161 yards and 3 additional scores. Johnson and Edna Karr had a perfect season, finishing with a 53-8 win in the state title over Alexandria.
