The Liberty Lady Flames defeated Delaware on Friday night to wrap up the regular season. The Flames finished in a four way tie with Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, and Sam Houston for third place in the conference standings. Based on the tiebreakers, Liberty has earned the fifth seed in this week’s CUSA Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama. The Lady Flames conclude the regular season at 17-12 overall and 11-7 in CUSA play.

The Lady Flames’ first game in Huntsville will be a Thursday quarterfinal clash against No. 4 seed Sam Houston. Liberty’s quarterfinal is set for 12:30 p.m. Eastern. The Flames closed out the regular season winners of three straight and eight of the past 10 contests.

W, 71-64 vs Delaware, March 6

Defending CUSA champion Liberty will be heading back to Huntsville on a high night. The Lady Flames closed out the regular season with a 71-64 Senior Night win on Friday over Delaware, marking the team’s third straight win and eighth victory in the last 10 contests.

Emmy Stout scored 18 points and Avery Mills added 17 as Liberty opened up a back-and-forth game with a 10-2 run to open the fourth quarter. Stout added 6 rebounds while Mills had 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Ify Nwaobi had 13 points and 6 rebounds, making 6 of her 7 field goal attempts.

The first three quarters featured 13 lead changes with Liberty headed to the final 10 minutes with a slim 52-51 advantage. The Flames then outscored Delaware 10-2 over the first 4:57 of the fourth quarter, getting four layups and a pair of Mills free throws while Delaware committed five turnovers during that span. The Blue Hens would get no closer than six points the remainder of the contest. Nwaobi scored six points in the final three minutes to help seasl the decision.

Liberty will open defense of its CUSA championship as the No. 5 seed. The Lady Flames will face No. 4 seed Sam Houston in the CUSA Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal round for the second year in a row, Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern. If Liberty wins on Thursday, it would advance to play in Friday’s first semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Eastern, with No. 1 seed and regular-season champion Louisiana Tech the most likely opponent. The title game is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.

All tournament games will take place at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala., for the third consecutive season, in conjunction with the CUSA Men’s Basketball Championship. The championship game will air on CBS Sports Network, with all other women’s basketball matchups in Huntsville set for ESPN+.

Liberty and Sam Houston (18-11, 11-7 CUSA) will square off in the CUSA quarterfinal round for the second year in a row. The Lady Flames topped the Bearkats 78-51 in 2025, taking the first step toward their inaugural CUSA title. Liberty is looking to advance to the semifinals of its conference tournament for the ninth year in a row and the 29th time in the last 30 seasons. Liberty is 5-1 all-time against the Bearkats, but the one loss came in the teams’ only meeting this season. Sam Houston topped the Lady Flames 59-53 in a defensive struggle at Liberty Arena on Jan. 8, spoiling Liberty’s CUSA home opener.
