For their final home game this past Saturday against Norfolk State, the Liberty football team hosted a number of highly talented recruits. The weekend was highlighted with the committed of 3-star tight end Brayden Monday, who is one of the highest rated recruits to ever commit to Liberty.

Fellow 3-star commits, QB Johnathan Bennett and WR CJ Yarbrough, were both on campus, and, as has been the case since the pair committed back in the summer, they did an excellent job of helping the coaches recruit. DE Tre’Shaun Clark and kicker Jason Stricker, other early verbal commits, were also on campus helping do their part in convincing the other talent to make their way to the mountain.

Some of that talent included JUCO defensive tackle Devonte Lloyd. The 6’2″, 305 pound prospect is from Senatobia, Mississippi where he attended Meridian High School. He’s currently at Northwest Mississippi Community College and also has offers from Bowling Green, FAU, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Monroe, Troy, and Western Kentucky. Liberty was his first official visit.

Another JUCO defensive lineman, Mason Vega, was on campus this weekend. Vega is a 6’4″, 260 pound defensive end from Chaffey College in California. He originally played for FCS Portland State. Hawaii is also pushing hard for him and he also has an offer from Idaho. At Chaffey this season, he’s recorded 31 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception.

A couple other JUCO talents were in town over the weekend, as teammates Maisen Knight and Trennan Carlson took in the Liberty win over Norfolk State. Knight is a 6’5″, 300 pound offensive tackle. He’s currently at Ventura College alongside Carlson. Knight is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah where he attended Judge Memorial Catholic. He went to Ventura immediately following high school, and after one season picked up numerous offers including Arizona, SMU, Nevada, Houston, ODU, UMass, Hawaii, and Fresno State. He committed to Arizona, where he attended for 2017 before transferring back to Ventura for the 2018 season. He’s a 3-star prospect and was all-conference at Ventura. Knight has two years of eligibility remaining.

Carlson is a 6’3″, 245 pound linebacker also at Ventura where he has recorded 58 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception which was returned for a touchdown. He was also first-team all-conference this season for Ventura. He also has an offer from Portland State.

Jack Lookabaugh is a 3-star offensive lineman that was also on campus this weekend. He attends Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas and, and the 6’5″, 285 pound prospect also has offers from San Diego State, Air Force, Army, Bowling Green, Navy, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Texas State, Utah State, and Wyoming. He’s scheduled to visit SDSU this weekend.

Stay tuned for much more coverage as we inch closer to the early signing period which begins on December 19th.
