The USA Today released its annual FBS college football coaching salary database this week, and for the first time Liberty’s head coach is listed on the report. Turner Gill checked in as the 83rd highest paid FBS coach with an annual salary of $947,281, according to 2016 federal tax returns. As we reported previously, this is a significant increase from his $750,116 total compensation package for the Liberty fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

His updated salary number places Gill ahead of 2018 Liberty opponents’ head coaches’ salaries at New Mexico, Troy, Old Dominion, UMass, and New Mexico State. Gill also ranks ahead of Coastal Carolina’s Joe Moglia who had a salary of $400,000.

Other Independent schools’ head coaches checked in at #59 (Notre Dame), #112 (UMass), and #120 (New Mexico State). BYU and Army’s head coaches salaries weren’t listed.

Gill isn’t a stranger to this list, as he was also part of the rankings for each of his seasons as head coach at Buffalo and Kansas. At Buffalo, Gill’s salary ranged from $183,000 to $401,300. At Kansas, his total pay in each of his 2 seasons with the Jayhawks was $2,101,200.
