A report from The State earlier today shed more details on Clemson transfer Marquise Henderson’s exit from his previous school. Henderson has also removed the social media postings announcing his commitment to Liberty from just a few weeks ago. Sources tell ASOR that Henderson is not expected to play football for the Flames this fall.

It may beĀ  late June and the Liberty coaching staff deep in recruiting for the 2026 class, but the Flames have also found reinforcements for the upcoming 2025 season just about two months prior to the start of the season. Former Clemson running back Marquise Henderson announced his decision to transfer to Liberty on Wednesday.

The news come shortly after Henderson entered the transfer portal which happened after Clemson dismissed Henderson from the program. The former four-star recruit was a Class of 2025 signee. He committed to Clemson in December 2023 and then enrolled with the Tigers for this past spring semester but was a limited participant for spring practices because of a hamstring injury. He was expected to split time working on offense and defense during training camp. Clemson did not specify why he was removed from the team. In a statement, a team spokesperson said, “Clemson has made the decision to dismissed Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward.”

Originally from Belton-Honea Path in South Carolina, Liberty was one of the first offers Henderson received in high school. He rushed for 2,122 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior and was a consensus four-star recruit. Henderson was ranked by On3 as the nation’s No. 164 overall player as well as the ninth-best player at his position and third-best player in South Carolina. He was a four-year starter who was named all-state in both 2023 and 2024 and 2as the 2024 SCFCA 3A Upper State Offensive Player of the Year.

Henderson joins a Liberty team that lost most of its top running back options from last season. While he is a late addition, the opportunity will be there for him to be an immediate contributor this fall. He will fit into a running back room expected to be led by Vaughn Blue, Caden Williams, and Juju Gray.
