BASEBALL SWEEPS RADFORD

The Flames swept Radford last weekend to improve to 26-26 overall and 10-11 in Big South play. Andrew Yacyk led the way with 6 hits, 8 RBI’s and 4 runs in the series. He leads the team in RBI’s this season with 48. Liberty had a non-conference game scheduled with Radford on Tuesday, but it was rained out. Due to weather, Liberty’s final regular season series was moved up to Thursday and Friday. The Flames split a doubleheader with High Point on Thursday, with the rubber match scheduled for Friday afternoon.

MAXWELL TRANSFERRING TO KANSAS

According to several reports, former Liberty center Evan Maxwell is transferring to Kansas. He chose Kansas over Baylor, Virginia Tech, and Cincinnati. Maxwell averaged 10 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season while shooting 63.7% from the field. He will have to sit out the 2016-17 season, before utilizing his 2 years of eligibility remaining.

SOFTBALL SEASON COMES TO AN END

The Lady Flames concluded their season with an overall mark of 31-28 and 16-8 in the Big South. After defeating 6 seed Presbyterian to open the Big South Tournament, Liberty was eliminated after dropping consecutive games to Coastal Carolina and Radford. The Lady Flames have improved both their overall and conference records in each of the 3 seasons that Dot Richardson has been head coach.

MEN’S GOLF FINISH 9TH IN NCAA REGIONAL

Liberty’s men’s golf team advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big South Conference tournament. While competing as the 11 seed, the Flames finished in 9th place out of 14 teams in the Albuquerque Regional. The top 5 teams, Arizona State, TCU, USC, South Florida, and San Diego State, advanced to the 2016 Men’s Golf Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
