The conference realignment circus continues this week, following Maryland and Rutgers joining the Big Ten last week.  News broke yesterday that Conference USA program Tulane would be joining the Big East in all sports, while fellow Conference USA school East Carolina will be taking their football program to the Big East as well.  Early this morning Louisville joined the game of musical chairs, taking their athletic program to the ACC.

The question, as always, for Flames Nation is “what does this mean for Liberty?”.  The answer of course is difficult to ascertain, however we do know that anytime teams move from likely target conferences for Liberty, it is good news.  In this case, Conference USA loses 2 members, and the Big East has signaled that it may not be done with their expansion.  Could this lead to a Liberty invitation to Conference USA?  Possibly.  There are solid travel partners available with the recent additions of Old Dominion and UNC-Charlotte.  However, it seems more likely AT THIS MOMENT that C-USA could poach a school or two from the Sun Belt, opening up spots there.  As Flames Nation has previously reported, Sun Belt Commissioner has expressed interest in Liberty in the past.  We may be in the final phase of dominoes needed for the Flames to join the FBS ranks.  But then again, this situation is about as fluid and tumultuous as anything in sports, so everything can change in an instant.

UPDATE: Case in point, it appears Conference USA has added Middle Tennessee State this morning to their league.  This opens up a spot in the Sun Belt conference as the madness continues.  Things could be happening VERY soon.  Stick around.

Stay tuned Flames Nation, this is just starting to get interesting.  We will be on top of any and all breaking news on realignment and the ramifications for Liberty.
