If you have been paying attention to Liberty Flames men’s basketball recruiting in the past year, two things will jog your memory about Colin Porter. First, Porter can be seen sporting a skater haircut all while excelling as the point guard for Paul G. Blazer High School. Second, Porter made Liberty headlines when he decided to reclassify this academic year to make an early arrival in Lynchburg.

The 5’10,” 160-pound point guard had a season that was nothing to ignore. Porter’s shooting was exactly what you hope for from an elite high school point guard. He averaged 55 percent from the field, 38 percent from three, and 86 percent from the free-throw line. He was knocking on the door of the coveted 50-40-90 club.

CP11 played in 23 games this season for Blazer High. He averaged 17.1 points per game, 6.9 assists per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, 2.5 steals per game, and 0.3 blocks per game. It is important to note his steals numbers. That stat points to a promising future lining up next to the likes of Joseph Venzant and Isaiah Warfield. Porter will be able to apply on-ball pressure that threatens ball handlers and drives them out of their comfort zones. It also shows he is able to read passing lanes and anticipate offensive schemes.

Unfortunately, Porter and his team were bounced in the Sweet Sixteen of the KHSSA High School Boys Playoff with a loss to Covington Catholic High School. Still, Blazer finished 26-6 and 5-0 in conference play. They placed 10th in the state.

The Ashland, Kentucky native is set to arrive in Lynchburg this summer with Zach Cleveland and Ben Southerland to begin training and getting accustomed to the collegiate routine.
