If you know me, you know I’m all about numbers and statistics. If I were a coach, I’d be the coach that uses analytics as a primary tool. So, I did a little research on Stephon Masha and Stephen “Buckshot” Calvert, and used statistics to judge their performance through the first 4 games.

More than personal statistics, a quarterback’s primary job is to lead the offense on scoring drives, and, ultimately, lead the offense to scoring more points than the opposing team. So, these statistics breakdown each quarterback’s drives they have led the team on so far this season, and the production the offense has seen on those drives.

Stephon Masha has been the quarterback for 37 drives through the first 4 games.
His average drive has lasted 4.3 plays and traveled 17.6 yards.
59.46% of Masha’s drives have lasted 3 plays or less.
21.62% of his drives resulted in points for the offense.
40.54% of Stephon’s drives have traveled 10 or more yards.
18.92% of his drives have traveled 30 or more yards.
Masha’s drives have resulted in 1.37 points scored per drive.

Buckshot Calvert has been the quarterback for 24 drives through the first 4 games.
His average drive has lasted 5.2 plays and traveled 23.5 yards.
50% of his drives have lasted 3 plays or less.
29.17% of Buckshot’s drives have resulted in points for the offense.
45.83% of his drives have traveled 10 or more yards.
41.67% of Calvert’s drives have traveled 30 or more yards.
Buckshot’s drives have resulted in 1.58 points scored per drive.

Everyone of these measurables favor Buckshot, and he has been named Liberty’s starting QB for the Robert Morris game. Hopefully, with all of the first team reps and more playing time, these numbers will only improve.
