Another storyline to ponder as we approach the kickoff of the 2013 football season, is the last time the Flames played a MAC team. As you know, Liberty faces Kent State of the MAC in the season opener on August 29th, but do you recall the last time the Flames played a MAC team?

Sure the majority of you do, on September 11, 2010, the Flames took on Ball State. Liberty led the majority of the game, and by as much as 11. Mike Brown led the Flames on the game winning drive late in the 4th quarter that resulted in a 1 yard Brown touchdown run. Brown’s touchdown gave Liberty the 27-23 lead with just under 5 minutes left to play. On the ensuing possession, the Cardinals were able to drive into Flames’ territory. Facing a 4th and 2 with less than a minute to play, Ball State quarterback Keith Winning was sacked by Liberty’s Asa Chapman to secure the victory.

Liberty is 2-7 all-time against MAC opponents and will look for their 3rd victory and 2nd consecutive when they take on Kent State on August 29th. Can they replicate what they did in 2010?
