The Big South Conference’s annual Football Media Day is July 18, 2017, an event that Liberty will take part in. Just 5 months ago, that sentence wouldn’t have meant anything, but things have certainly changed during that time.

With the Flames’ spending 2017 as its first of a two year transition from FCS to FBS, it is not eligible to win the Big South’s automatic bid to the FCS playoffs or to advance to the FCS playoffs as an at-large. Yet, since Liberty is playing a full Big South conference schedule in 2017, LU will take part in the Media Day festivities.

Liberty’s football games against other Big South members will count towards the conference standings, but the Flames will be listed at the bottom of the standings with an asterisk denoting its ineligibility for the Big South Championship. The Flames will be ineligible for the preseason poll, but Liberty’s student-athletes will remain eligible for all preseason, in-season, and postseason awards.

Also during the 2017 season, Liberty will not be eligible for the FCS Coaches Top 25 poll, but will remain eligible for the STATS/Hero Sports national polls.

The Flames’ begin training camp with its first practice on August 1st as they continue to prepare for the 2017 season and the season opener on September 2nd at Baylor.
