Updated 4:59pm: Liberty has put out an official release on the expansion with updated pictures. The release also states, “several improvements coming to Williams Stadium before kickoff of the 2019 season”

Liberty has submitted a Conditional Use Permit to the City of Lynchburg for the expansion of Williams Stadium to 25,000 seats.

This permit calls for “a new scoreboard, signage, lighting, food service, data handling facilities, box “loge” seats, camera platforms, and an entrance gateway feature along with road improvements to improve traffic flow generally, and on game day. Several new bus loading and unloading areas are being provided at or near the stadium as part of the infrastructure improvements.”

The narrative goes on to state that the school “has an eye on the long range continued expansion of the stadium in the future,” but this proposed work and application is for a total of 23,100 actual seats and approximately 1900 seats on the grass berm in the bowl behind the south end zone for a total capacity of 25,000.

More to come on this developing story.
