Just 11 days after Jeff Barber resigning, Liberty President Jerry Falwell, Jr. announced Ian McCaw as Liberty’s newest Athletic Director.

McCaw resigned as Baylor’s Athletic Director in May amidst the sexual assault scandal. McCaw was named Baylor’s Athletic Director in September 2003. During his time as athletic director at Baylor, the Bears captured four national team championships and 56 Big 12 Conference championships. This period also includes Baylor’s 9 highest finishes in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings. Baylor football reached bowl games in 5 consecutive years for the first time in school history under McCaw’s leadership.

Prior to his time at Baylor, McCaw has been Athletic Director at the University of Massachusetts and Northeastern. He also had stints at Tulane and Maine. He was named the 2014-15 FBS NACDA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year. He said that Monday was his first day on Liberty’s campus.

“I’d like to express my deep appreciation to President Falwell for his confidence and affording me such a special opportunity to lead and steward the athletics program here at Liberty University,” McCaw stated. “President Falwell’s fingerprints are all around Liberty, whether it’s the impressive campus or all of the many construction projects going on with the success of the online program. I’m very honored and feel fortunate to be able to serve under such a dynamic leader and he certainly has the University on a very steep upward trajectory at this point in time.”

“I can’t stress how excited I am about Ian McCaw at Liberty University,” President Falwell said. “I don’t think there could be a better fit between a university and an athletic director.  I have such high hopes and expectations for the future of Liberty athletics, and I believe that we’re going to be able to go places that we’ve not yet been in so many ways, and we’re honored to have Ian join us as our athletic director.” Falwell continued, “It was really an easy decision, and we’re so proud he chose Liberty.”
