According to the News & Advance, former Liberty football player Avery James has filed suit against Liberty University, LU’s spokesman Len Stevens, and the former Liberty student athlete accusing James and others of sexual assault from August 2015. James is seeking up to $50 million from Liberty, up to $50 million from the accuser, and $250,000 from Stevens.

As we have previously reported, former Liberty football players Cam Jackson, Kyle Carrington, and Avery James were named in a statement of findings on sexual assault allegations in a news release by Liberty University.

The release stated, “On July 13, 2016, Liberty University received a report of sexual assault alleged to have occured off-campus in August 2015.” Further, the release states, “As a result of the investigation and a hearing held on September 8, 2016, two current students, Cameron Jackson and Kyle Carrington, and one former student, Avery James, were found responsible for violating the Student Honor Code and Liberty University’s Policy on Sexual Harrassment, Discrimination, and Assault.”

James was part of the football team before being dismissed from the team in February 2016 by head coach Turner Gill for violating team policy.
