Liberty continues to add to its 2026 roster through the transfer portal with the third commitment in two days, this one from former Penn State offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Birchmeier played in 26 games over the last two seasons for the Nittany Lions, including all 16 in 2024, mostly in a special teams capacity. He was a top 100 recruit out of high school in the 2023 recruiting class.

The 6’5″, 300 pound offensive lineman was the No. 1 player in Virginia, No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the class of 2023, and No. 54 player in the country per 247 Sports’ Composite rankings coming out of high school. He played at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, as he now returns to his home State.

Birchmeier recently took a visit to Liberty and was scheduled for visits to Temple and San Diego State. He also reported offers from Western Michigan and Kennesaw State since entering the portal just a few days ago.

Birchmeier is the 2nd offensive lineman to commit to the Flames through the portal in as many days, joining NC State transfer Valen Erickson.
