The Flames shocked much of the Big South world with their upset of Coastal Carolina in the 1st round of the Big South Tournament. Now Liberty turns their attention to the #1 seed from the North Division High Point. What you need to know:

  • High Point finished 12-4 in conference and 17-12 overall.
  • This will be the teams’ 3rd meeting this season. High Point beat Liberty 77-72 in double overtime in High Point and 73-68 in Lynchburg.
  • Liberty is 1-1 all-time against High Point in the Big South Conference Tournament. Of course, we all remember the 2004 championship game in the Vines.
  • The biggest news surrounding High Point is John Brown’s broken foot he suffered last week against Radford. Brown, 1st team all-Big South & Freshman of the Year, was averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Brown averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the 2 games against Liberty.
  • High Point forward Allan Chaney averaged 19 points and 12.5 rebounds per game against Liberty this season.
  • In Brown’s absence look for freshman guard Adam Weary to pick up his production. Weary is averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in the 2 games that Brown has been injured. Prior to Brown getting hurt, Weary was averaging just 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
  • John Caleb Sanders averaged 21 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game against High Point during the regular season.
  • Davon Marshall has struggled against High Point scoring just 7.5 points per game against them this season.
  • Joel Vander Pol likes playing against the Panthers as he averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds in the 2 games against High Point earlier this year.
  • Tavares Speaks averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game against the Panthers this year.
