lyonsBaseball in Big South Tournament
After losing their first conference series of this season last week to Radford, the Flames hope to bounce back in the postseason. Liberty is currently playing in the Big South Tournament where they seek to capture their 2nd consecutive tournament championship. Behind Trey Lambert, the #1 seed Flames defeated #8 Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Tuesday. However, the Flames lost to #4 High Point Thursday night, and will face Radford Friday in an elimination game.

The 2014 NCAA Baseball Championship bracket will be announced at Noon Monday, May 26th on ESPNU.

Sun Belt closes door on Liberty
The Sun Belt announced on Wednesday they will not be adding any additional schools to the conference any time soon, thus closing the door on Liberty’s chances at joining the conference. What does this mean for Liberty in the near term? It will be interesting to see how things play out in the athletic department over the next several months as the school had invested so much into getting into the Sun Belt. With an FBS or bust mantra, it’s likely the Flames are stuck in the Big South for the foreseeable future. As always, realignment remains fluid, and we are just 1 or 2 dominoes away from Liberty being directly in the crosshairs of potential expansion into the FBS. But the news this week was a definite blow.

Golf finishes 8th in NCAA Regional
After a rough start to NCAA Regional play in Eugene, Oregon last Thursday, the Flames bounced back with a solid finish. Liberty wrapped up regional play last Saturday in 8th place out of the 13 teams in the region. The top 5 teams (Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma, Houston, and South Carolina) advanced to the NCAA Championship.

Senior Niklas Lindstrom finished the event tied for third place individually, and went to a one-hole playoff with Chattanooga’s Chris Robb to determine which golfer would get the individual at-large bid into the national championship. Unfortunately, Robb defeated Lindstrom on the first hole of the playoff.
