Liberty Athletics Year In Review #8: Women’s Basketball Takes Home Another Big South Title

The Lady Flames returned to the top of the Big South Conference in 2012, and claimed their 14th conference championship in the past 16 years.  Liberty dominated much of the season, going 16-2 in league play, finishing with an 81-73 win over High Point in the Big South Championship game.  The Lady Flames also made their 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2012, where they fell to #1 seed Notre Dame.  Liberty finished the season 24-9 overall, their 14th 20 win season in the last 16 years.

Liberty was led by Big South Championship MVP Avery Warley, who finished her career as the leading rebounder in Big South history, with 1,282 boards.  On offense, the Lady Flames were paced by Devon Brown’s 16.9 PPG.  Head Coach Carey Green also earned his 300th career win in his 13th season with the team.

The Lady Flames look to continue their era of dominance in 2012-13, and look to be on the right track for another Big South Championship run.
