The Lady Flames had a somewhat mediocre season this year, but Katie Zavodny has not subscribed to this trend. After the Flames were knocked out of the Big South Tournament on Friday, we decided to recap her record breaking season.

2/27 Zavodny records five hits against Hampton. 27 Flames had hit four times in a game, but Zavodny’s five makes her the lone record holder at Liberty.

4/3 Zavodny extends her hit streak to 23 games, tying the Liberty hit streak record. Only having seven innings in softball (some games even ended early at five innings) makes this feat particularly impressive.

4/7 Zavodny had another five hit game at Charleston Southern, tying her own record for hits in a single game.

4/24 Zavodny steals her 40th base of the season against Virginia, breaking the Liberty record for steals in a season.

Katie Zavodny should easily break the Liberty career steals record at the beginning of next season. She is currently one steal behind the current holder.

The interesting thing about Zavodny is she did not pick up a Big South Conference Player of the Week. This is a testament to her consistency throughout the season. Zavodny is one of the nations leading base stealers and is also one of the most efficient, stealing successfully 82% of the time.
