The FCS regular season is winding down, and with just 2 Saturdays left until playoff time, it is relevant to start looking at FCS games that matter down the stretch.  As the playoff picture starts to come into focus, there are some match ups worth watching closely for Liberty fans.  So here they are, A Sea of Red’s Games That Matter – Week 11 Edition:

fcs_ncaa_logo1

Maine @ Stony Brook (-3.5) 2:00 PM

Elimination game in Long Island on Saturday for the Sea Wolves and Black Bears.  The winner certainly isn’t in, but they are alive.  The loser is a goner.

South Dakota @ #11 South Dakota State (-12.5) 3:00 PM

South Dakota State is almost definitely punching their ticket to the playoffs, but in state rival South Dakota lacks any certainty.  With a win, South Dakota can stay alive and pick up big resume points.  With a loss, their playoff hopes are dead.

Albany @ #21 New Hampshire (-8.5) 12:00 PM

Albany is definitely on the outside looking in, but can keep their slim hopes alive with a win at UNH.  New Hampshire needs to win too though.  UNH is in my “definitely in” category right now, but a home loss to an Albany team that has struggled in the CAA would put them in jeopardy.

#18 Montana (-11.5) @ Northern Colorado 2:00 PM

Montana can’t afford to lose another game.  Even with their reputation points (which definitely mean something), if they drop this one they are in trouble.  On the other hand, Northern Colorado is facing certain elimination.  A win doesn’t put them in, but it does keep them alive.  This one is worth keeping an eye on, as Montana isn’t the same team away from home.

Wofford @ #7 Chattanooga (-7.5) 2:00 PM

Wofford is probably Liberty’s closest at-large competitor right now.  Their resumes look pretty similar, but the SoCon still carries more weight in the committee’s eyes (fair or not).  Chattanooga is playing for a possible first round bye, so a lot is on the line here for both teams.  Liberty fans will also be Chattanooga fans today.

#14 Charleston Southern (-2.5) @ #25 Liberty 3:30 PM

This one is self explanatory.  Big South Championship and the auto-bid on the line in Williams Stadium.  No excuses for you, and the team, to not show up.
