Both James Madison and Liberty have made it known they want to move to the FBS ranks. Perhaps Conference USA makes the most sense for each with the recent developments at UAB. Here are a few reasons why the Conference USA wants Liberty and not JMU.
1. JMU is Radford with a football stadium
Same parties. Same study habits. Same diseases.
2. Liberty is more patriotic than James Madison
Red, white, and blue are the official school colors. JMU just pays homage to one founding father. This is Conference “USA” we’re talking about here.
3. Old Dominion, a current CUSA member, wants Liberty
ODU’s athletic director, Wood Selig, is in the Liberty camp and would go to bat to include the Flames over the Dukes.
4. The Dukes wear purple
I guess they chose their school colors when they were still an all-girls school.
5. JMU is a women’s college
Well, it started that way in 1908 as State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg. Impressive.
6. Sam Ponder beats Lindsay Czarniak
Ponder (top) is a Liberty alum. Czarniak (bottom) is a JMU alum. Both work for ESPN.
7. Sparky > JMU’s Duke Dog
Yeah, give me Sparky.
8. Liberty has a higher ceiling
Started in 1971 and a school that draws not just nationally, but internationally, the sky is the limit, as they say.
It would be nice if Conference USA really did want LU.
Funny post except for #5. Back in 1908, the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg was cutting edge stuff. Your great-grandmother deserved to get an education too.
Liberty Finally makes the playoffs, despite being in a historically weak conference. I guess they don’t know how to act since they have never been in the post season before.

Look I know it sucks your school gives you a bedtime, will suspend you for watching rated R movies, and won’t let you look at women but don’t TRY and bash JMU. I don’t think they select one school over the other because of which alum did what but whatever helps you feel better about it I guess.

The man accused in the kidnapping/death of Hannah Graham is a former LU football player. He was also reportedly accused of assault against a female student while he was at LU.

Woah, what are you smoking son? Wood Selig has been lobbying the CUSA director to let JMU in since ODU joined. ODU had a great rivalry with JMU when they played. Why would he possibly want to play Liberty?

I thought liberty was where you go to validate and reinforce your narrowly simplistic and antiquated view of the world and JMU was a school where real professors work to challenge and educate real students.

I guess being founded by Jerry Falwell and teaching young earth creationism (etc., etc.) wasn’t embarrassing enough, requiring this ridiculously (s)exist attempt at humor to seal the deal. I even had to modify my post just to use an accurate descriptive term. Stay classy, Liberty!
What an incredibly embarrassing article for anyone that goes to Liberty. I honestly could not even believe that this was written by a real college student writing for a real website. I would think that with absolutely nothing to do, and so much free time on their hands, a Liberty student could muster up at least one semi-intelligent statement. But let’s be honest, why would we expect anything less from such a sad, closed-minded university? I suppose they’re two busy saving the world from gay marriage and the theory of evolution. What a pity.
“Same diseases”? Keep it classy hometown. Embarrassed to be a JMU student from Lynchburg after reading this. This article is the essay paper my junior year language & Composition teacher told us to never write- all based on emotion. I’ve never been a fan of Liberty’s, but now I’m embarrassed that I live in the same town as LU.
Clearly a tongue-in-cheek piece. Some of the responses a clearly an attempt to return that humor, but a few are just plain mean spirited. You know who you are, and you should be embarrassed if not ashamed. You should each post an apology as a reply to your original comment.
Wow. If this article was truly written as humor, it certainly doesn’t come across that way; understand that not everybody appreciates the same sort of humor. This article just comes across as a proclamation of victory in the most “sore winner” fashion I’ve seen in some time. Not at all what I would expect from “Champions for Christ,” as the LU website describes. For anyone who doesn’t know people from Liberty, this article sets a very poor example of LU’s student population. This is the internet, and, in most cases, you only get one shot before people judge you. Better make that shot count.
Liberty needs an FBS invite. I do not care which FBS conference invites us first, just get the ball rolling please and thankyou.
