Today we reach #5 on our list of the top 10 storylines entering the 2013 football season with UVA transfer running back Clifton Richardson. In early June it became official that Richardson would head to Liberty following his 2 seasons at Virginia.

How much of an impact will he have? Will he line up at wide receiver or as a wildcat QB? Is he the next Rashad Jennings? We won’t know the answer to these questions for at least several more weeks, but he certainly has the potential to be all of the above. One question mark could also be his health, as Richardson battled nagging injuries throughout the 2012 season at Virginia. In his only full season, Richardson rushed for 366 yards on just 72 carries as a true freshman in 2011.

Following Aldreakis Allen’s suspension, Liberty’s offensive skill positions are suddenly inexperienced. So, having an upperclassman with ACC level experience come in should give the Flames a valuable boost immediately. If he remains healthy, Richardson could be the explosive player needed to push the Flames into the FCS playoffs for the first time in school history.
